First Song From Upcoming Album Is #1 Smash

After just seven weeks, “Live Like You Were Dying” by Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors has reached the #1 spot on both the Billboard and Radio & Records country music charts. The song is the title track of McGraw’s highly anticipated new album, which features Jeff McMahon and the rest of McGraw’s faithful road band on their second consecutive album project.

This reminder to live life to the fullest, written by Tim Nichols and Craig Wiseman, has found an overwhelming resonance with audiences across the country. Its phenomenal rise to the top began with a debut at #29 on R&R and #36 on the Billboard country charts in its first week! The debut performance on the Academy of Country Music Awards show brought the entire house to its feet. It broke into the top five after only four weeks and has been a high point of the “Tim McGraw and The Dancehall Doctors OUT LOUD Summer Tour 2004” since its opening night.

McMahon reflects on recording what has become one of the fastest rising songs of McGraw’s career.

Tim has a great ear for songs, but he also has a great sense of what works for him and what he wants to say. He shared this song with us, and we all just got it. We knew why it worked…we knew why it was important.

That’s what’s great about recording this song together, and recording it now. We were all over the “first-time jitters” of the last album. We are more confident and more solid as a band. And we’ve been together so long, it’s easy to trust each other with the vision and the vulnerability of a message that can be so personal.

In a lot of ways, this was so easy…so automatic…it just always made sense to us. It really seems like this song happened just like it was supposed to…and when. It’s that simple.

McMahon’s last recording project with McGraw, Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors, has sold over three million copies and was nominated for Album of the Year by the Country Music Association in 2003. Their new album, Live Like You Were Dying, is scheduled for release August 24, 2004.
