"Changes In A Life" by Lea
Jeff
McMahon, Pianist for Dancehall Doctors and Backup for Country and Western
Artist Tim McGraw
Recently my teacher, Ms. Gray, went to Tim McGraw's concert in Austin,
Texas. A few days before the concert day, she received a phone call from
her friend, Jeff McMahon, checking to see if she had received her tickets
for the concert. I began wondering how it is to be an important part of
something and if he has a life other than touring. I asked Ms. Gray if
Mr. McMahon would allow me to interview him.
Lea: Were you born in Texas? If so, where?
Jeff: Yes, I was actually born in Texas. Sherman, Texas, to be exact.
Lea: Did you attend college?
Jeff: Yes, I did attend college.
Lea: Where and what did you get your degree in?
Jeff: I graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with a degree
in radio and telecommunications.
Lea: How does your family feel about your career today?
Jeff: They absolutely love it! They always encourage me, especially my
dad!
Lea: How long have you been with Tim McGraw?
Jeff: I just had my ten-year anniversary with the band. It seems like
only yesterday that we were eating baloney sandwiches in the back of the
car.
Lea: What would you say is your most exciting moment?
Jeff: Playing piano on TV with my childhood idol, Elton John, during
an award ceremony. The song was "Tiny Dancer".
Lea: What advise would you give young people today?
Jeff: Quit playing X-Box and do something useful! Learn how to play an
instrument so you can create music of your own!
Life for Jeff is busy. He is constantly working. When time permits, he
is with his family. On the road, he has times to share with Tim McGraw
and Faith Hill's daughters. He has appeared on Jay Leno and David
Letterman. But, all in all, interviewing Jeff McMahon, I discovered
he is real just like I am, with things to do, places to go, and people
to see.
