Anticipation Grows As New Album Is Released

The new album by Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors, Live Like You Were Dying, hits record stores on Tuesday, August 24 and once again features McMahon and the rest of McGraw’s loyal road band. At the album’s release, the title song remains in the top singles spot as it holds at number one for the seventh straight week.

This ninth album for the award-winning superstar is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The song “Live Like You Were Dying” has become the fastest rising chart single of McGraw’s career, reaching the top five in only four weeks. This follows in the wake of the triple platinum album Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors, McGraw’s first recording project with his road band.

Vic Roberts had this to say about the excitement surrounding the new release in the August 20 edition of the Christian Science Monitor:

Plenty of country music singles have been released in advance of an artist's CD, hoping to generate buzz. That buzz, in Tim McGraw's case, sounds like a buzz saw as the August 24 release date of his new CD nears. Filled with sweeping violins, the title song recounts the reconciliation of a son with his dying father. While not written by McGraw, this tearjerker parallels his life. McGraw's Louisiana drawl sizzles with emotion throughout the track as well as the rest of this splendid CD.

Keyboardist Jeff McMahon was thrilled to return to the studio with McGraw for a second time. “I know that I felt a lot more at home,” he said. “We were already familiar with the studio, and we really knew what we were trying to accomplish with this new record. That made it much easier to reach for things and try to stretch out with some new ideas.”

McMahon notes that McGraw had a clear vision of what he wanted from this record, but the superstar did not rely solely on his own ideas. “When I go to make an album, I always have something personally that I want to do different or improve upon,” said McGraw. “This time, all nine of us had those kinds of goals. It takes a certain amount of assurance to reach for more, but the fans gave us that assurance and we went for it."
